I want to tell you a bit about my experiences on my way to the big dream God gave me. Throughout my life, God has presented the same dream to me 4 different times. The 1st time I ignored it, the second time I got excited and then scared and pushed it away, the 3rd time I started to believe it but then got distracted by life. The final time I made the choice to give my life up and follow the dream God gave me and that is what I am in the midst of doing at the current time I write this. I read a book a long time ago called the ‘The Dream Giver’ by Bruce Wilkinson, I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and everyone. The Link is below for more details. This book changed my life and will change your’s too. What I am writing about for the rest of the post is a lot of the concepts you will find in the book.
Following God’s dream is for you is unlike doing anything else; it fulfills you and fills you with hope, peace and love. I want to take some time to help you think about what your dream from God is and take a look at some of the things you will encounter along the way when you do start to live it out. Everybody has a god-given dream. It is never too late to go for it but it is your dream to action; but you must choose to do it.
Somethings to know about God-given dreams:
1. A dream always seems overwhelming
2. A big dream is aimed at meeting a big need in the world
3. It is NEVER too late to act on your dream
Once you start towards your dreams, there are 7 common steps or phases you will go through. Today we are going to look into the first 3.
1. Become aware of your dream
I am sure your thinking that’s great but I have to make a living, or only some people get the big God-given dreams. I truly believe each and every person was created for a purpose, and has a dream deep inside them even if they do not know it exists. Becoming aware of the dream is the first step in the process.
How to Find your Dream, these are some questions to start asking yourself.
1. What have I always been good at?
2. What needs do I care about most?
3. Who do I admire most?
4. What makes me feel most fulfilled?
5. What do I love to do most?
6. What have I felt called to do?
2. Face your fear as you leave your comfort zone
There is always a level of discomfort when you are pushing out beyond your comfort zone. Satan will try to keep you in your comfort zone because he does not want you living a life for Christ. He uses words like ‘unworthy, unable, uneducated, unknowledgeable’
An equation Satan will use is:
BIG DREAM + LITTLE YOU = HUGE FAILURE
Here is the truth: Your dream IS beyond your ability, we ARE unworthy but God picks us unworthy and unable people to carry out HIS big dreams. “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” 1 Corinthians 1:27
Fear will always be involved yet God calls us to be courageous and asks us to act in spite of that fear.
Dreams are to help someone else; Comfort is to help yourself.
3. Encounter Opposition from those around you
A concept to become familiar with: BORDER BULLIES.
Boarder bullies are the people who are standing at the edge of your comfort zone, trying to convince you not to walk out of it. The worst part is : they are usually people close to you. They are opposing you because you going towards your big dream disrupts their comfort zone. They tend to be people who are close to you and who you trust.
Although the path towards living your dream is scary and filled with the unknown, you need to know
that Jesus is with you and walking with you the entire way. Psalm 139 verse 3-6 says “You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am”
I want to encourage you to think about what God’s dream is for your life and DO IT! God has put you in charge of a big need in this word and what an honour. Do not believe the lies that God didn’t give you a dream to that you are unable. He gives us all a dream and all the ability to accomplish it.
